Your question is a little hard to answer because you are comparing two things that are not even similar.

Dreamweaver, is a text editor with some tools to help a novice user build HTML pages and style them with CSS and has a visual representation of what you are building on the fly. However, that is not accurate to what it would look like on a real browser.

WordPress is a framework/CMS with a bunch of prebuilt functions and classes to help you build a website with blogging and CMS capabilities quickly within a small budget.

So those big-time applications you are talking about can already be built while using WordPress as the CMS. I wouldn’t suggest it though but you can do it now. All it is just PHP and MySQL really. If you know that you can build anything while using WordPress as the CMS. WordPress isn’t the one that needs be more advanced in this situation….the web developer does.
