What’s better for freelance web design, HTML/CSS or WordPress?

Simply put, if you “learn” WordPress without having a clue about HTML and CSS, you’ll always feel very limited.

WordPress is powerful, however, you will still need to know HTML/CSS/PHP if you want to really know how to leverage its power.

Without any knowledge of those three, you might be able to create a basic personal website or portfolio. That’s it. And in fairness, even a personal website like mine still use a fair bit of custom CSS.

HTML and CSS, on top of that, are rather easy to learn. You could literally understand the basics and how to use them in less than a weekend.

If you want to make it in this industry, you definitely need to start from the basics and this means HTML and CSS. You’ll soon realize, however, that you will need to also integrate other knowledge.

The web industry is great. There’s plenty of fish to catch. However, you need to be ready to go through an endless learning process.

I’m a web developer. I do my job for over five years and there’s not a single day that passes by without learning something new.

Hope it helps.
